Education: Fair for all, or a free-for-all? Poster
A poster / flyer for an interesting meeting coming up in November in Oxford. I am reminded of the excellent work of John Taylor Gatto, the award-winning New York teacher who became an author, education-activist and historian. In his masterpiece “The Underground History of American Education” he explained with shocking evidence the origins of the school system (in the US) where factory owners wanted somewhere to keep their workers’ children while both parents worked in the factories. These first ‘schools’ were not designed to ‘educate’ – they were to train these children to become the future factory workers – obedient, docile and without ambition.
